Measurements were within ~55 μm or less deviation from the actual sizes, and measurement accuracy was improved as feature size was increased, corresponding to the effect of noise becoming less pronounced. Results demonstrated that surface features with known sizes as small as 25.4 μm could be resolved. Characterization of the dual-laser operating mode has been performed via surface measurement of stainless steel targets with ``stair-step'' features in various sizes. Measurements of surface roughness were performed in a single-laser mode and compared with the data from profilometry, with a linear correlation of increased holographic measurement fidelity as surfaces became smoother. The holography system utilizes one or two lasers depending on the scale of surface features under measurement. Ownership of your time and what is important belongs to you.A digital holography device is currently undergoing development at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for the purpose of measuring surface topography, with the goal of deployment as a real-time plasma-facing component diagnostic for the study of materials that could be utilized in a nuclear fusion device. Those who are able to separate the signal from the noise will be the ones who thrive in the next 5 years. The velocity of change and distraction will increase. This past year has taught me, we can simplify and with AI, 5G and wearables advance coming at us at breakneck speeds each of us need to take control of our own digital transformation. Instead of being fed iterative fluff by ‘always-on’ alerts, notifications and Apps, I am back to thinking and learning. My content consumption has shifted from an hourly news cycle, back to contents about ideas and my personal interests. It is going more long-form with podcasts and books on Audible. This has been a huge step towards gaining control. I write my daily ‘TO-DOs’ down, take meeting notes, doodle and track my calendar - analog - on paper. This is a completely unintended consequence. I am no longer versioning presentations (v1, v2…….v15.1), I am working with others collaboratively, live. I am embracing Microsoft teams and Office 365 and taking advantage of the convergence of the productivity applications on any device. I started using OneNote and sharing my notes and thoughts with others. Now that I have more time back, I am capturing, thinking and creating more. I do not miss Facebook and treasure getting the personal contacts back. I am not a ‘delete it now’ fanatic, I have just set my privacy settings to personal and naturally stopped using Facebook, completely. I am still using LinkedIn because I value it as a learning platform. I am now a participant in fewer lives but, I am there in person, by phone, or on WhatsApp. My use of Facebook (and Twitter ) dropped to zero. There are some interesting outcomes from detoxifying my phone.ġ. As a write this my phone is in the other room.

Since my phone was no longer telling me what to do, I was able to gain control of my agenda and do what my brain wanted me to do. Mindfully and subconsciously, I started putting my phone face down and not turning it over for hours. I became more focused on daily routines and more engaged in meetings. It is easy and takes less than 1 hour. Once you implement it, you immediately notice the silence.

I followed my own advice and twelve months later on - it works. In January 2019, I published this LinkedIn article on the 10 steps you need to take to digitally detoxify your phone. I am able to manage my time better during this high growth year with a few steps I took last January to declutter and digitally detoxify my iPhone. The last 12 months have been fantastic and I am enjoying growing being part of AVEVA’s amazing cloud business.
